For Clients, order your 23 and Me genetic test kit, on-line. When you receive the kit, you will be asked to register with 23 and Me, and then submit your saliva sample. You can enter your name, or you can enter another. Your results should be ready in about 6-8 weeks, and will be delivered via the email address you enter as a contact. When the genetic test results arrive, please enter the resulting raw data into Sterling's App at MTHFRsupport.com. There are clear instructions on how to upload your raw genetic data into the App. Contact Cynthia if you need assistance, and/or for follow-up interpretation.
For Health Care Providers, referring their clients:
SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) analysis and development/implementation of the individualized treatment is too involved and nuanced to learn in a few hour period. In addition, the time involved to properly perform same is prohibitive for a busy health care practitioner. As such, I am happy to offer the following service.
After your client has received her/his completed 23andMe results, the next step is to process them through a software program. The software program translates the results from 23andme, into a 19 page SNP report called a “Variant Report”, which is used for Nutrigenomic counseling.
The software program can be found at MTHFRsupport.com, under “Reports and Consults”. It’s easy to use and takes about 10 minutes. They ask $30 for the translation. The Variant Report is in a PDF format, so it’s easily e-mailed. The MTHFRsupport website includes additional information for your Clients.
If your Client has additional test results such as blood work, NutrEval, Urine Organic Acid test, etc., please provide those, along with the Variant Report. The best outcomes are achieved if I can align SNPs with current biomarkers, as some SNPs are not necessarily initially active (especially if a biochemical pathway has been historically blocked due to a particular SNP, e.g., MTHFR, MTRR, BHMT).
I typically spend about 1-2 hours reviewing all of the test results, and then conduct a 3 to 3 1/2 hour consultation with the Client in order to review the Client's history, go over their SNPs and develop the nutrigenomic treatment Plan. The Plan is fully explained along with the significance to your Client’s nutritional status. I may suggest additional testing which can be ordered by myself or the Provider, depending on the client’s insurance, etc. Further, if the Client cannot come to my office, I am available via Skype to hold the Initial consultation.
I email the Plan to the Provider and the Client within 48 hours after the Initial consultation. The Plan is typically staged over a few months period, as biochemical pathways must be addressed in a specific order, depending on the Variant Report. The Plan may be tweaked after 4-5 weeks as the SNP-affected pathways “unblock” and impact other biochemical pathways. If supplements are required, I include ordering links and Authorization Codes, or the Provider can supply. Generally speaking, GI health is addressed as a first step, as addressing pathways related to methylation often causes changes to GI health and liver detoxification ability. (If the Client is awaiting 23andMe test results, I will recommend a Genova Diagnostics Comprehensive GI Effects test, so the results can be utilized to optimize the GI tract function.) I also address mitochondria and cell membrane health as an initial step.
My fee is $499 for a Comprehensive analysis, which includes preparing for the Consultation based on a comprehensive health questionaire, any previous test data and the 50 + page Variant Report, a 3 hour consult, and preparing a follow-up Plan. I can only do one new Client Consultation 3 days per week as each takes 7-8 hours, and I reserve other time to answer emails and schedule new clients, and do research and teach. Additional telephone or Skype appointments for clients are billed at $62.50/15 minute increment. There is typically an ongoing email exchange, as most folks have questions after the Initial Consultation. I don’t charge for emails, but request a 24 hour window for a response. I am flexible with your preferences for contact between your Client and myself.
I look forward to working with you and assisting with your Clients!
The Compendium 1 is currently 330 pages and includes the following SNP categories:
- Phase 1 and 2 Liver Detox SNPs
- Methylation SNPs
- Alcohol SNPs
- Histamine SNPs
- Neurotransmitter SNPs
- Mitochondrial SNPs (Electron Transport Chain)
This SNPBit Compendium 1 is a compilation of four years of research gathered by Sterling and Cynthia, and our associate Carolyn Ledowsky.
The current SNPBit Compendium 1 will be updated shortly. Its next edition will include updates to the current enzymes/SNPs, additional sections/pathways such as the Pentose Phosphate Pathway, and more.
